Description: Purim 03
Sefer Yemay HaPurim
Purim - 03
There is an added depth here. Haman thought, as did the tzaddikim before the Anshei Knesses Hagedolah, that when Klal Yisrael sins, and Hashem seems to turn away from them, Hashem removes His Hashgachah from us. He ignores us and leaves us for the wolves, so to speak. That’s why they removed those words from Shemonah Esray, because Hashem simply changed His approach to us for the duration of galus. Haman told Achashveirosh as well, ‘Yeshno Am Echad,’ which Chazal explain to mean, that Hashem is ‘yashan’ chas vi’shalom, He is sleeping. But the truth became apparent, that there is no such thing! The level of Hashem’s attention and care for us never changes an iota. All that changes is how Hashem displays it. During the time of the Beis Hamikdash, Hashem displayed His love and care openly. During Galus Hashem displays hester panim, but continues to watch over us, and manipulate the world to protect us! That is the gevurah of Hashem, which is even greater, given that it is achieved all through a hidden hand.
Now we can address the question we started with. Why is it that the neis of Purim will be celebrated when Moshiach comes, equally as much as the miracles of Moshiach? How can it be that the miracles of Yetzias Mitzrayim will take a back seat and become ‘bateil’ to Moshiach’s redemption, and be secondary, while the neis of Purim will endure forever, as we say, ‘teshuasam hayisah lanetzach?’
The answer is, that the miracles of Mitzrayim were an open display of Hashem’s hand in saving us, His yad hachazakah and His zeroah hanetayah. This will pale in comparison to the giluyim, the open miracles and awesome display of strength that Hashem will exhibit with the final redemption, the coming of Moshiach. At that point, it won’t make sense anymore to focus on Yetzias Mitzrayim, as it clearly will only be a runner up to what the final redemption revealed to us. It will become batail and a tafel to the coming of Moshiach.
But the miracle of Purim is a whole other kind of miracle. It was a neis nistar, the miracles Hashem performs during hester panim, when He is hiding from us. This kind of miracle demonstrates a vastly different level of Hashem’s hashgachah and care over us, and it isn’t diminished at all by the redemption of Moshiach. It teaches us something side by side – the love of Hashem for us is unchanging, whether during giluy panim, and whether during hester panim.
There’s another important aspect of the neis of Purim, which will complement the final redemption, and therefore will exist side by side. This explanation is given by the Toras Chaim on Maseches Sanhedrin, a beautiful insight into the miracle of Purim, which works very well with what we have been explaining up till now.

The neis of Purim only occurred because Klal Yisrael did teshuvah. That was actually all part of Hashem’s manipulation, to bring Klal Yisrael to teshuvah. As Chazal say, ‘gedolah hasaras ha’tabaas yosair mi’mem ches nevi’im,’ when Achashveirosh removed his ring and handed it to Haman, it accomplished more, meaning it caused Klal Yisrael greater repentance, than 48 nevi’im were able to do with all their rebuke! Hashem moved events so that Klal Yisrael should repent. Their repentance directly brought about the yeshuah of Purim. Likewise, the final redemption will only come through the teshuvah of Klal Yisrael, and when that happens, we will look at the neis of Purim, and understand how Hashem manipulated all the events of the world, to bring about the final redemption! That’s why it will be celebrated alongside the final redemption forever.
